Excelsior Band Hall
Description
Walking past the Excelsior Band Hall here in Maryborough, I’m always reminded of the resilience within our community’s history. While it looks like a timeless Victorian relic, this building is actually a tribute to what was lost—a modern replacement for the original hall that was taken by fire in 1987. I wanted to capture its sharp tower against the sky using my 'Noir' high-contrast style, emphasizing the textures of the walls as if it were a monument to the music that has played in this town since the 1880s. I’ve tried to bring out the 'feeling' of the structure that stands as both a new beginning and a connection to the past.
