Poise in the Shallows

There is a deep, quiet wisdom in the gaze of our native waterbirds when you catch them in a moment of absolute stillness. On a recent trip near Childers, I watched this magnificent Royal Spoonbill balance effortlessly on a weathered branch over the water, completely at peace with its surroundings. By stripping away the color, the image becomes less about the setting and more about the texture of life—the rugged grain of the wood, the delicate layers of plumage, and the prehistoric detail of that remarkable bill. It felt as though time briefly stood still just to let me capture its solitary grace.
